To discover and eat delicious foods, isn't that one of the best parts of traveling? As 2017 is almost near, I'm approaching my six years of being a vegetarian. Before I decided to be vegetarian, I tried for a year on and off. Then, one day in January, I woke up and said, "Today is the day", and haven't turned back since. You can imagine my parents reactions when I came home (a once heavy sushi and BBQ eater) that summer, it was funny, because they had a hard time accepting my diet change and my Dad especially was a little confused. But, now I enjoy delicious home cooked vegetarian meals from my parents and I love it! It's been a whirlwind of curious questions, accidentally being served fish or shrimp when I clearly said no because I'm a vegetarian (vegetarians do not eat seafood of any kind) and enjoying long conversations with people who are interested in taking up the lifestyle. I could go on and on about the many benefits that people follow (no animal cruelty, healthier) but I think the best way for people to start a new lifestyle is to find their own reason, research, and experiment with different recipes.
Here's some of the most known and new vegetarian friendly countries to visit and live.
Korea isn't the most known country for being vegetarian friendly (Korean BBQ is a popular dish in many countries and Korean BBQ restaurants are so popular right now) but my home is slowly starting to open more vegetarian and vegan friendly restaurants. Indonesia has plenty of vegetarian options, and Bali is a dream destination for healthy dishes. If you haven't tried Gado Gado, you are missing out! Indian and Thai food has many vegetarian options and is perfect for those who love spicy food. Thai and Indian is one of the most known cuisine in many countries and has endless selections of soups, noodles, rich and curry dishes. In Ethiopia and Ethiopian restaurants, you get a platter of colorful and fragrant choices of food. Berlin, the capital of Germany has been nicknamed on social media as the Vegetarian Capital of the world. When I visited Taiwan, I fell in love with all the vegetarian dim sums and noodle dishes - my favorite was this sesame and vegetable noodle dish I got at this one restaurant every night before going back to the Airbnb I was staying at.
